Obituary For Barbara Parsons
Barbara A. (Dreist) Parsons, a longtime resident of Rockland passed away at home on Sunday May 4, 2025 at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Henry A. and Olga F. (Hoffman)Dreist. Barbara was born in Boston, MA and grew up in Jamaica Plain. She graduated from JP High and worked at the Horticultural Society of Boston. Barbara married the love of her life Walter M. Parsons, Jr., in 1954. They moved to Rockland in 1959 where she devoted herself to Walter and her daughters. After Walter’s passing in 1984, she focused her love on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara McLaughlin and her husband Dennis of Whitman and Donna Stransky of Rockland; her grandchildren, Dennis McLaughlin, Jr., of Whitman, Michelle Stransky and her husband Gary Scott of Hanover, Brian McLaughlin and his wife Rachel of Whitman, and Sara Gatto and her husband Nicholas of Rockland; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Emily McLaughlin and Logan and Evan Gatto.
Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband Walter M Parson, Jr.,her siblings, Henry Dreist, Rose Molway, Roland Dreist, Gloria Lawrence, Virginia Lindsay, Beatrice Larivee, Robert Dreist, Charles Dreist, and her sister-in-law, Ann Parsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the First Congregational Church of Whitman, MA,or a charity of your choice.
Family and friends are welcome to honor and remember Barbara’s life at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St, Rockland, MA on Friday, May 9th from 4-7pm. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home on Saturday, May 10th at 10am with burial to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain, MA.
Barbara will be missed by all who knew and loved her
