Mrs. Barker was one of those teachers who you never forgot. I was lucky to have her as my 5th grade teacher at Sylvester school. She gave each student notecards that she would stamp every time a student answered a difficult question (her questions were tough! Esp. her math problems..I swear they were comparable to those on the SAT). She brought history to life, taking students on end of the yr a field trip to the Hanover Center cemetery and explaining the history, with addition stops at four corners, the Stetson House, the old rubber factory off Winter St. and lastly, her historic home on Main Street. No one knew the history of the town better than Mrs. Barker! She visited students homes to see which student grew the biggest tomato plant as part of a class assignment and took the lucky student out for ice cream. A brilliant teacher and while she could be strict, she cared about her students and wanted to inspire a curiosity in them.

Words cannot describe the impact Barbara Barker Kemp had on my life, from poems and crafts still remembered to memories of visiting her in her home for many years after 5th grade, she was much more than a teacher. She was a historian who brought Hanover's past to life and encouraged us to be the ones future historians study. Rest well Mrs Barker. With love.

My dear friend, Barbara...we worked together in harmony for 30+ years on historical endeavors for the benefit of the people of the Town of Hanover through the Friends of the Stetson House, the Historical Society and the Historical Commission. Very little of Hanover's past would be remembered if not for her bringing it to life for us in her articles, plays, and books. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. My sincere condolences to her family.

Mrs. Barker was my math and social studies teacher in fifth grade. She instilled in me a love of history in me. I'll never forget our field trip visiting the historical sites around town, and bouncing on the ground of the old rubber factory. She was a lovely, kind woman, and one of the best teachers I ever had. RIP

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of one beautiful lady. Barbara was an inspiration to us all and always the teacher... What a lovely person and always willing to help out where needed. We have very fond memories of our years spent visiting at Hoppy's Nook but mostly in good ol' Hanover, MA. Always looked forward to those visits and the lobster bodies!!! Your Mom, wife and Grandma will always hold a very special place in your hearts and the many lessons we learned from her will follow us for the rest of our lives. Rest is peace Barbara and know that a special angel watches over each and every one of you. Love to you all.

I first met Barbara and Wally a couple of years ago when I drove up from Florida to see my sister Barbara who is married to John Kemp, Wally's son. Barbara made me feel very welcome and told me some of Hanover's history. She was a very sweet and caring person who will be missed.

Aunt Barbara was an inspiration to me. I remember her talking to me about getting her Master's in Psychology and how impressed I was that she pursued this goal as a mature student with a career and a family. I followed in her footsteps and also got my Master's in Psychology. I am grateful to her for being such a strong female role model to me growing up.
I also remember spending two weeks every summer at Hoppy's Nook and getting to see Barbara, Uncle Stu and my cousins, Holly, Libby, Allison and Jeff. My fondest memories are there, in Cape Cod with my extended family.
I am very happy that only two years ago we were able to bring my father, George, and his sister, Barbara, together in Cape Cod and that they could reminisce together about their own childhoods at the Cape. Thanks to Wally and Libby for making that happen.
I love you all and please know how your mother touched my life.
    Love, Susan Underhill
