Obituary For Barbara A. Metcalf

Barbara A. (Smith) Metcalf, 86, of Rockland, died Friday, February 26, 2016, at the South Shore Nursing Center in Rockland. She was born in Rockland on July 8, 1929, to parents, Thomas and Evelyn (Silvia) Smith She was raised and educated in Rockland where she was a lifelong resident. Barbara was the loving wife of Francis P. Metcalf of Rockland for 69 years.. Barbara is survived by her children Stephen F. Metcalf of Barnstable, Deborah A. Metcalf of Rockland, William S. Metcalf of Rockland, Bruce A. Metcalf of Kingston and the late David E. Metcalf and Scott P. Metcalf. She was sister to John A. Smith of Florida and Nancy Marresse of Rockland. Barbara leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Barbara worked as a supervisor for the Graphic Development Company in Hanover for 30 years. She was an active member of the Hanson AA and enjoyed spending her time bowling and playing softball. Barbara loved to knit, crochet and embroider. She enjoyed traveling to Florida and Maine, or simply sitting on her front porch and watching planes from the former Naval Air Station. The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate her life on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
