Obituary For Barbara A. Merlin

Barbara A. (Hannigan) Merlin, 83 of Rockland died on August 17, 2017 at the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth after a period of failing health. She was born in Boston daughter of Irish immigrants William and Nora (McHale) Hannigan and was raised and educated in Roslindale and was a graduate of the Hyde Park High School.

Barbara resided in South Boston and Dorchester for many years before settling in Rockland in 1999. She had been employed as a receptionist at Willis and Coroon Insurance Agency for several years and later worked at the Abington Savings Bank.

Mrs. Merlin had been a member of the South Shore Singles Club, she loved to read and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her children affectionately referred to her as the "life of the party!"

She was predeceased in 1979 by her husband Daniel G. Merlin, Jr. She is survived by a daughter Patricia A. Arria and her husband Michael of Hanover, a son Thomas E. Merlin and his wife Anne of Hanson. Her grandchildren Pamela Perry of Feeding Hills, MA, Kristen Merlin of Nashville, TN, Lindsey Arria-Gillespie of Austin, TX, Michael Arria of Boston, MA and Jennifer Merlin of Hanson. She was the sister of Edward Hannigan of Dover, DE and the late William Hannigan and John Hannigan.

The family invites all to celebrate her life at a Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover MA on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery in Boston. Calling hours in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland will be on Sunday, August 20, 207 from 4:00-7:00 PM. The family requests memorial donations in her memory be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Drive Suite 326 Plymouth, MA.

    My heart is breaking right know. Mrs. M was like a second Mom to me (especially when I had lost my own)and I loved her as my second Mom. Remember having steak and mac and cheese for dinner at her house in Dorchester (best dinner ever). My prayers are with you Mrs. M you will always be in my heart.     I will always remember Auntie Barbara's hugs and kisses, her warm spirit and the love she had for her family. Deepest condolences to her son Tommy, her daughter Patty, and both their families for the loss of a wonderful woman. I'm sorry that I won't be able to travel back home to help celebrate her life and have a long overdue visit with you all. She is in my thoughts here in Oklahoma.

    She was a good mom to a son Thomas Merlin and a wife of her husband and a mother in law of his son's wife Anne Merlin and a lovely nana of her great kids I wanna say that my love and prayers are in their family members hands sorry for ur lost
