Obituary For Barbara A. McFadyen

Barbara A. (Stano) McFadyen, 76 of Bourne died on October 19, 2016 at her home, where she lost her 4 and a 1/2 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Harriet (Cass) McGrath and her husband John McGrath. She was raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain Section of the city. She was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, where she met the love of her life, David McFadyen, at age 14. A former Bellingham resident, she had made her home in Bourne for the past 15 years. A proud homemaker, Barbara was devoted to her family especially to her grandchildren and her great granddaughter. Other hobbies included knitting, watching her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune, and trips to Foxwoods. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 57 years, David W. McFadyen, Jr. She was the mother of Barbara Sedgeman and her husband Bruce of Hanson, and Catherine L. Porter and her husband Joseph of Middleboro, and the late David W. McFadyen, III and Michelle McFadyen. She was the sister of Harriet (Bunny) Tiorano, and the late Jane Powell. Barbara was a wonderful Nana to Heather and Matthew Sedgeman, Jessica Scurini and her husband Stephen, as well as Jake and Jacquelyn Porter. She loved being Nanny to her great granddaughter Hailey Sedgeman, who was known as "her medicine" to both family and doctors. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate her life on Sunday October 23, 2016 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union Street Rockland from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church 1 Maquan Street in Hanson. Burial will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson. Cathy, Barbara and family,
We are very sorry for the loss of your beautiful mom. She was definitely a fighter and now her pain and suffering is over and she is at peace in a divine place watching from above. You will carry her in your hearts forever. xoxo

Nana was the best person I have ever known. The nicest, caring, and loving. Who else would start a candy lunch tradition when I was little because I asked her one day if we could have all candy for lunch (and she went all out once a year!) and kept the tradition going with Hailey, who also loved it 🙂 I was a little obsessed with you when I was younger, and we stayed just as close as I got older. Thanks for being the best nana and nanny to me and Hailey. Love you forever .. And I love you more (we did use to debate who loved who more at the end of EVERY phone call!)

We are so sorry to hear of this loss. Barbara was a wonderful neighbor and someone our daughters could count on to buy Girl Scout cookies when they were young. We have you all in our thoughts and prayers.
