Obituary For Barbara A. Byrne

Barbara A. (Clements) Byrne, 78, of Rockland died at her home in Rockland on September 9, 2008 following a period of failing health. She was born in Somerville daughter of the late Francis and Alice (Grindle ) Clements and was raised and educated there. She was a 1948 graduate of Somerville High School. Mrs. Byrne was a long time communicant of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Hingham. Barbara was very active in the church participating in variety of outreach programs including volunteering at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. Barbara moved to Rockland 55 years ago and has since become a very active member of Holy Family Church in Rockland as a Life Teen volunteer, and as a member of the Holy Family Breakfast Club. She was also a member of the Rockland Democratic Town Committee. Barbara loved to travel. Her favorite travel destinations were Naples FLA, Martha's Vineyard, Bermuda, and Italy. Mrs. Byrne was a voracious reader and also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Barbara is the wife of the late Walter A. Byrne Jr. She is survived by her children; Alice L. Boyle of Hanover, Kathy B. Scolley of Rockland, Ruth A. Byrne of Rockland, Barbara B. Sullivan of Rockland, and Walter J. Byrne of Rockland. She was the sister of Dorothy Cahill of Tewksbury. Also survived by 13 Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her friend Arthur LaMontagne of S. Yarmouth. A Funeral was from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Saturday, September 13th at 10:15 AM. A Funeral Mass was held in Holy Family Church at 11:00 AM. Burial followed in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Randolph. Calling hours were on Friday, September 12th from 4:00-7:00 PM. Donations may be made to The Walter J. Byrne Jr. Scholarship Fund, 64 Emerson St. Rockland MA 02370, or to St Vincent DePaul Society, 403 Union St. Rockland MA 02370.

    when visiting ,barbara had some gold tipped tiny matches, and put them outside of bedroom window and told steve and shirley, who were about 5 and 7 they were from a leprechaun, that was watching, and they never to this day forgot it.

    to the whole Byrne family i am so sorry for the loss of your mom and especially Barbara we go back to grade school and it is so hard to lose your mother just remember what she taught you because she had such remarkable children now adults and to you Ruthie for all of your help when i needed it and you all are such diginity and grace just as your mother raised you She is looking down very proudly and smiling at you all my love and prayers to all of you Andrea

    My heart goes out to each and everyone who knew and loved her. What I know of this woman I gather through knowing her children. She had to be an amazing woman because like the saying goes ... "The seed doesn't fall far" ... How Truly blessed she was to have the love of so meny. Man ... 13 Grandchildren ... What a wounderful , wounderful thing! Love to you all.

    many years ago, when i and shirley and stephen, visited,barbara told them a story of lepracons, who visit, and will leave gold tip matches ouside the window. shirley and steve, to this day remember finding the matches. they were probably 5 and 7 and kathy took us to the mayflower.
