Obituary For Arthur Dean Sargent
Arthur D. Sargent (best known as Dean), of Rockland died on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the age of 84. He died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dean was the beloved husband to wife Ruth (DelPrete) Sargent. Ruth and her family recall Dean's funny, loving, and adventurous way, as well as his absolute devotion and unconditional love he shared with his wife Ruth throughout their 61 years of marriage. Dean was happiest when he was dancing the jitterbug with his "Ruthie" aka "Flovely", by his side.
Dean was raised in Rockland and was one of five children born to the late Arthur J. and Florence (Hawes) Sargent of Rockland. He is survived by sister Lynette Crovo, late husband Bill of Halifax, and his late siblings David, Betsy, and Cyndi Wessman, husband Mike of Plymouth. Dean was an incredible dad to three children; his late son Douglas D. Sargent of Rockland, son Scott A. Sargent and his wife Barbara of Rogers, Arkansas, and daughter Gail M. Lincoln and her husband John of Pembroke. Dean enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Darice, Matt, Mike and Marissa as well as partners Will, Taylor, Chris and Bianca. Dean was just getting to know the three newest little additions to the Sargent family, his beautiful great grandchildren Elise, Luke and Eloise.
Throughout his life, Dean's journey included being a sportsman/outdoorsman, historian, entrepreneur and traveler. Expanding on these passions, his love of History included publishing two books, being an active member of the GAR (Grand Army Republic), receiving the "key to the city" at Sargent, Nebraska for identifying the origins of the city's name. Dean and Ruth honeymooned in Bermuda and were frequent travelers to this beautiful island over the years. The pair were fortunate enough to visit many European countries, Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and Alaska with Dean having a particular fondness for his trip to Normandy. Lastly, Dean and Ruth had a passion for antiquing.
At this time services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dean Sargent Memorial Scholarship Fund. Please mail donations to: Carla Dunn â„… Rockland High School 52 McKinley Way Rockland, Ma 02370

A wonderful non biological family member indeed. Great companion in all aspects of life & godfather to my Sue...Loved his devotion to Ruth and family as well as his being a great son to his Mom & Dad. Known Dean since high school(so many years ago) and as a neighbor for 60 odd years. He was always kind courteous and lovingly family devoted. He could be counted on to lend a helping hand when needed. He will be remembered well.

Dean Sargent was my first cousin, nine years older, and although I did not know him well, my memories of him are all positive. He was an exceedingly nice person to me. My mother married his uncle, Russell Hawes, and as sometimes happens, took him off to Pittsburgh at the end of the Great Depression, and away from small-town Rockland, Massachusetts. Life got in the way, and I was to see my cousin Dean just a few times, always with his strong glasses, and later with his wonderful wife Ruthie. Alzheimers took my mother and now it has taken Dean, but it cannot take away my positive memories of him.
