Obituary For Arthur A. Hewitt III
Arthur Andrew (Artie) Hewitt III
12/24/1944 – 09/15/2023
Arthur A. (Artie) Hewitt III, 78 of Rockland, MA, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 15, 2023. Son of the late Arthur A. Hewitt Jr. and Esther V. (Adukonis) Hewitt of North Weymouth, MA. Loving husband of Karen M. Hewitt for over 53 years. Cherished and devoted father of Eric J. Hewitt and his wife Sarah of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Melanie A. Hewitt of Springfield, MA. Proud Papa to Antonio G. Teoli, Max O. Hewitt, and Emerson J. Hewitt. He is survived by many other relatives and friends. He was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1962, attended Boston University, and served proudly in the Army National Guard.
Artie was an entrepreneur who started his own company, Meleric Supply Inc., and sold building materials for many houses built on the South Shore. He was also a revered clam digger in the area, having out dug many over the years.
He was an avid horse racing fan enjoying summer trips to Saratoga, NY for a day at the track. Golf was another pastime for Artie having played with friends and colleagues for a number of years. He also had a passion for animals, especially his late Chihuahua, Chi Chi.
Most of all, Artie was known for his charisma and people gravitated to him over the years. Everyone wanted to talk to Artie for his sarcastic sense of humor and sage advice!
There will be a funeral mass in his honor at the Holy Family Church in Rockland, MA at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).

Anyone that has worked at Bay Pointe will tell you Artie was their favorite customer. He was always genuinely interested in what others had to say. When I started to show interest in golf he instantly suggested we play, and took me to play 18 holes for the first time. He was so patient and encouraging, when the group behind us started catching up he would just say "Don't worry about them, take your time and keep your head down." Artie had a bigger impact on people's lives than he could begin to realize. His kindness and support was the best medicine when you were having a bad day, and especially a hard time. My prayers and condolences go out to Arthur's family, he will be sincerely missed.

To Artie's family - my heart goes out to you during this incredibly difficult time. Artie was just the best. We became friendly through the years at Bay Pointe and my fondest memory was when he met my daughter Savannah for the first time. He called his son and had him get her a onesie from Savannah GA and it was just so sweet of him to do that. My last memory with Artie was just this past July when my friends and I called him from the Saratoga Race track for betting advice. I will never forget him and how special he was. Rest in peace Artie, you will be deeply missed
