Obituary For Annie Murphy

Annie (Moore) Murphy, 81 of Rockland, formerly of Whitman, died at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC after being stricken ill while visiting her daughter. She was born in Jewett City Connecticut, daughter of Assyrian immigrants, Mansour and Haabah (Elias) Moore. She was raised and educated in Quincy and had been a longtime Whitman resident before moving to Rockland in 2002. She had been a longtime employee of Standard Products in Whitman.

Annie was her family's biggest fan. She attended numerous sporting events, enthusiastically cheering on Jason, Bobby, Melissa, and Lindsy, as well as supporting the musical achievements of Heather and Matthew. Her greatest joy was her family. Annie continued to prepare her favorite recipes for family and friends, maintaining weekly dinner dates with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was passionate about sustaining relationships with friends, some as far back as her grammar school days, through frequent phone calls, cards, and long letters. Here is a woman who owned neither a cell phone nor a computer, and still was in touch with the world. She truly was an amazing woman.

Wife of the late Robert L. Murphy Sr. she was the devoted mother of Ann MacDonald and her husband Mark of Apex, NC, Robert L. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Rockland and the late Paul J. Murphy. Annie was the beloved grandmother of Jason Murphy and Robert Murphy III of Rockland, Melissa Braillard of Martha's Vineyard, Lindsy Murphy of Westford, Heather MacDonald of Washington, DC and Matthew MacDonald of Apex, NC. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Jameson and Avery Murphy and Emma Braillard. She was the sister of the late George Moore.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate her life on Monday February 18, 2013 from 5-8 PM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. Rockland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday February 19, 2013 at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church 518 Washington St. Whitman. Burial will be on Wednesday at Mt Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy. Donations in Annie's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105/ www.stjude.org.

What a lady! In my mind, I still see Mrs. Murphy running up and down the sideline at the boys' football games in her Rockland football jacket 🙂 Sharing your sadness as you say good-bye to her. But when God closes a door He opens a window. For sure, Annie will be a guardian angel for little Avery and all of you.

After searching the web, I found that the name "Annie" means "generous." How appropriate! My Aunt Annie was generous with her time, her talent in cooking, her friendship, and her love. Devoted to her husband, children, "grands," and "greats," Annie gave part of herself in all she did. She was a small woman, but she was all heart! All our lives have been richer for knowing Annie, and we will all miss her very much!
