Obituary For Ann M. Mason

In Loving Memory of Ann Mason

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ann Marie Mason (married name Ann Brown). Ann passed away peacefully on May 16th while under the wonderful care of the Pat Roche Hospice House in Hingham at 67 years young. Ann bravely had been battling a Parkinson's diagnosis for the past 4 years. Her friends and family saw first hand how valiantly she fought against this disease, all while keeping her trademark humor.

Ann was born January 21st 1959 in Weymouth. Her parents, who precede her in death, Charles Mason and Anna Mason (Dyer) raised her and her brother Charles “Chuckie” Mason in Rockland, at their well known Myrtle Street residence. Ann was a proud cheerleader and graduate of Rockland High School in 1977. Afterwards, our free spirited Ann struck out on her own and moved to Hyannis on the Cape with friends- a time she always cherished. Ann received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Cape Cod Community College. She was always active throughout her life, teaching aerobics in her 20s, participating in triathlons, running 10k's, skiing, and golfing- you could always see her around town getting her steps in.

After living in the Cape and California, Ann returned to Rockland, where she raised her three children whom she is survived by - Nicole Mason, Malcolm Brown and Simmone Brown. Ann loved her children fiercely and was all of their biggest advocate. Her children’s successes were her successes - she loved to brag about her children to anyone who would listen. She worked incredibly hard to provide and support her family in any way she could. We are proud to call her our mother.

Ann always had a passion for helping others and she found her calling in Special Eduction later in life. She proudly worked for North River Collaborative as a special education teacher’s aide for 15 years, retiring in 2021. She made deep connections with her students, her students parents, and co workers- friendships that extended outside of the classroom. Ann even joined with the West Bridgewater High School cross country team to support one of her students who wanted to join.

Ann was beloved by all who met her, and made an impact that was far reaching. She was a dedicated friend, and in turn has a circle of amazing people who have supported and rallied for her in her time of need. Her children are endlessly grateful for their support.

Ann was known for her natural red hair and zest for life. She loved fashion, reading, staying active, being by the ocean, The Patriots, and the occasional pumpkin ale. She had a big personality and sense of humor like no other. She will be missed immensely.

Her surviving family, her three children Nicole, Malcolm, and Simmone - and her brother Chuck, invite you to keep her memory alive by sharing a memory of Ann below.

Although I didn't personally know Ann, she was a pleasant young lady who imparted kindness. I went to school with her brother, Chuck, another great person. She's free of her mortal pain and suffering, and Heaven has gained a True Angel. My condolences to the families.

My most sincere condolences to the Mason and Brown families. I graduated from High School two years before Ann. I actually graduated with her brother Chuck. However, I did know Ann. She was always "Annie" to me. I knew Ann through my playing sports and Ann cheerleading. Ann's cheerleading started early, i believe, when Chuck was playing Pee-Wee and Midget football in Rockland. She was always so supportive of Chuck and all the athletes involved in local sports. Ann had a very "giving" spirit. I would see Ann in the hallways of RHS when we shared High School years together. Her vibrant red hair personified her personality. Ann was energetic, enthusiastic and unique. You couldn't miss Annie. I always admired Ann and her fellow cheerleaders for supporting all Rockland sports teams, even when it was 30 degrees outside and all they'd be wearing was a white turtleneck, a white sweater with an "R" on it and a blue skirt. Must of been rough. But, that was Ann, supporting her Bulldogs and classmates. Although Ann was slight-of-build, she had a larger than life persona. She was smart, tough and determined. With a brilliant smile. I'll remember her that way. Rest in peace Annie.

I was a friend of Ann's 'during our college years at Cape Cod Community college. We lived together for 2 years while attending Cape Cod Community college. She helped me get through a confusing time as a closeted gay man.. She was my first platonic crush.. On rainy and snowy days we would sit around watch TV and chat about what our future lives would be like. One night we were drinking and starting kissing each other and I became very sad as I knew we would never have a life together as a Gay man and a straight woman She was alway's special to me in that she made me feel good about myself during a very difficult time in my life. Thank you Ann as your big heart and overwhelming desire to help people made my dark years a little brighter. I will miss our memories. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of re-connecting with Ann and Malcolm over the past year and meeting Nicole. Ann still had her sense of humor and style. To family, may your memories bring you comfort. Tracie
