Obituary For Ann Crowley

Ann (Garvey) (Hackett) Crowley, 87 of Rockland, passed away at Southwood Nursing Facility in Norwell on November 22, 2021 after a period of failing health, Ann was born in Charlestown, MA to the late Helen (O’Leary) and Richard Garvey. Ann grew up in a large family and loved being a former Charlestown Townie.

Although Ann was only four foot, something inches, she was a force to be reckoned with. While she was raising her young children she worked at Schraff’s Candy Factory overnight and often told stories of Lucille Ball types of mishaps on the assembly line. We’re not sure when she slept, but she wanted to save money for a home in the suburbs for her family. She was able to accomplish moving to a new and better home. In order to maintain this household and six children she worked nights as a cocktail waitress. Her uniforms were creative to say the least! In her haste to get home to her children, she was involved in a couple of motor vehicle incidents earning her the name “Crash Hackett”.

Ann celebrated all holidays at her home. She was the ultimate hostess making sure everyone had food and beverages. She especially loved her family pool parties. Prior to her husband’s death she took several trips to Florida as well as cruises. Later she invited family members to join her on more cruises and took advantage of all social events!

Ann faced tremendous losses, yet she dealt with these with remarkable resilience and determination. She lost the love of her life, her husband John. She also endured the losses of her children Stephen and Donna, and her BFF, her sister Marie. She extended her family by acting more as a parent to her grandchildren, and as a Nana Crowley to their friends.

Ann was predeceased by her loving husband, John Crowley. She was the much loved mother to six children including Debra Hackett of Dover, NH, James Hackett (Kathie) of Pembroke, MA, and Michael and David Hackett of Rockland, MA. She was predeceased by her beloved children Donna Hackett and Stephen Hackett both of Rockland. In addition, Ann leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Michael Norkus, Bryan Norkus, Krystal Barba, Lawrence Hackett, David Hackett, Bobby Hackett, Jordan (Hackett) McDonald, Rene Hackett, Lauren Hackett, Shayne Jenkins, Stephen Jenkins, Seamus Kidney, and Ceili Kidney. She also leaves behind seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Sue Edysall and Bobby Delorey. In addition, Ann leaves behind two brothers: Jack Doherty of MA, Jim Doherty of CA, and her sister-in-law Lillian Garvey of Charlestown. She was predeceased by brothers Richard of NYC, Robert Garvey and her sister Marie (Doherty) Norris of Charlestown, her partner in crime! Over the past few years Ann met several Meals on Wheels volunteers. She considered them her friends as they did her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann’s memory to the Rockland Council on Aging, 317 Plain Street, Rockland, MA 02370.

Ann had a long and eventful life. Please join us to remember her eventful life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, in Rockland, MA. Services will be held on November 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
