Obituary For Alton J. Smith

Alton John Smith, 87, died Sat., Dec 14th 2019 peacefully at home.

He leaves his son David and wife Renee of Hanson, Ma.; his son Stephen and wife Tracy of Hyde Park, Ma. and his grandchildren Rachael, Matthew, Nicholas, Samantha, Patrick, Devin and Elizabeth as well and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Olga, who passed in 2018.

Raised in Arlington VT, Al and Olga later settled in Norwell, Ma. in 1965 where they have resided ever since. After graduating from Arlington High School, Al attended St. Michaels University for a short time, then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He completed his degree in Electrical Engineering attending night classes at Northeastern University.

Al was employed as an Electrical Engineer for GTE Sylvania for 30 years where he made many lifelong friends and golf buddies. An avid golfer and skier, Al spent winters skiing with his family and many friends and his summers playing golf with family and friends at Pembroke Country Club where he was a longtime member.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Magoun Biggins Funeral Home,135 Union Street Rockland Ma. Visiting hours will be Friday Dec 27th from 4-8. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Dec 28th at 9:00 am at St Helens Church, 383 Washington St, Norwell, Ma. A private burial will be held at a later date in Arlington, Vt.
