Obituary For Bert Erwin

Bert Oliver Erwin Jr. 1/1/1949-12/25/2020

Bert, a resident of Whitman, passed away at home on Christmas morning, after long period of failing health.

Bert was the son of the late Bert Erwin and Eleanor (Erwin) Davis. He was raised in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School in 1967. Bert was married to and divorced from Mary J. (Erwin) Springer of Orlando, Fl. He was a loving father and raised his three sons, Daniel O. Erwin, predeceased, Michael J. Erwin and his wife Mary of Orlando, Fl. and Brian A. Erwin, predeceased. Bert was a construction worker and bus mechanic. He loved to sing and play the guitar at churches, family functions and most recently a sing-along with the children at Self Help Inc. Head Start, Brockton.

Bert always had a sense of humor even up until the end of his life. He would come out with something that would always make people laugh and smile. He loved animals and, in his youth, he raised pigeons, ducks, chickens, roosters, a pig and had a monkey until our mother made him give it back. Bert was a Christian and a giving and loving person. He didn't have much, but when he could give, he did without hesitation. For the past three years of his life, Bert chose to be sober from alcohol and everyone was able to enjoy the great personality and soul that was always within him.

In addition to his son, Michael, Bert is survived by his siblings, Barbara Ellis of Port Orange, Fl., Lawrence Erwin and his wife Letty of Lakeville, Lenore Erwin and her wife Michele, of Whitman. and Jill Bumpus and her husband George of Wareham. Bert has five grandchildren surviving him; Michael Erwin, Samuel Erwin, Samantha Erwin, Olivia Erwin and Derek Erwin. He also has nine nieces and nephews surviving him; Paul Ellis, Eric Erwin, Janette Erwin, Joseph Erwin, Joshua Bumpus, Aaron Bumpus, Rachael Erwin, Margaret Martineau, Rory Martineau and predeceased Virginia Ellis.

At the family's request, private viewing will be held with interment at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree due to Covid-19 restrictions.
